WHAT'S GOING ON AT JARC?

JARC recently held a grand opening of the Morris Lipson Memorial Library.  Funded in part through a donation from the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties, the Morris Lipson Memorial Library is committed to providing a forum for uniting people with a common interest in assisting person with disabilities in becoming active members of their community.

The Morris Lipson Memorial Library is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

The Twelfth Annual JARC Olympics Award Ceremony was a celebration of spirit and teamwork.  Medals and certificates were awarded to all who participated in the twenty plus events held at the Living and Learning Center and the JCC.  The auditorium erupted with cheers and applause as each winner was announced.  Participants from all JARC programs competed in the annual event which was design to promote fitness and teamwork.  When the Mailrooms were announced as the team winner, the stage was flooded with team members sharing the joy of success.

JARC’s Supported Employment Services continue to grow.  Through the determination and efforts of our staff, we have received funding from several sources to continue this vital service.  JARC is an approved provider of supported employment services through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities as well as the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.  JARC was also the recipient of a $50,000 grant to provide supported employment services for those not eligible for funding through other avenues.

Residents from our group homes and supported living apartments recently participated in the first of twelve weekly drama classes.  Led by Debbie Lombard, Director of the Exceptional Theatre Company, participants were immediately immersed in the world of theatre.  They have already practiced places, on stage and back stage voices, and how to express feeling through words and actions. Volunteers from local schools are involved as “shadows” to aid the participants in learning and saying their lines. Words can not accurately describe the incredible progress made in just one ninety-minute class.  At the end of the twelve weeks, participants will stage a production of “Grease”.  They will be adapting the play to included characters that they choose to portray.  The benefits of this program can already be seen in the increase in communication skills and improved self-confidence of the participants.  Mark your calendars for April 16, this is a production that is not to be missed.

Create a Legacy in Honor of Your Loved Ones...
There is an old Jewish saying about creating legacy’s…“I found trees in the world when I was born. My grandparents planted them for me. So too I am planting them for my grandchildren.”
You can create a legacy in honor of your loved ones by endowing a fund at JARC.
Becoming a member of the JARC Legacy Society allows an individual to endow their Gold Key gift in perpetuity. Donors may create a Legacy Endowment with a minimum gift of $36,000.00. Gifts may be made through life insurance policies, IRA’s or outright gifts of cash or stock.
The JARC Centurion Society honors supporters who have made a minimum commitment to $100,000 to JARC. By becoming a member of the Centurion Society you can create a legacy and secure the future for people with developmental disabilities.
A minimum gift of $10,000.00 can establish a permanent endowment. An unrestricted gift provides JARC with the financial reserves to utilize the funds where they are most needed. A restricted gift is designated for a particular area of support within the agency. Major areas of need include scholarship endowments to aid families who require financial assistance for their family member. Program endowments support our adult day training, Judaic, tutorial, social and recreational programs that provide life sustaining supports to our clients.
Permanent recognition is given for these gifts of Tikun Olam, of Repairing the World on our commemorative walls in the atrium of the Stein Living and Learning Center.
Please contact Dr. Mel Clayman, JARC Endowment Chair at (561) 498-7838 or Dr. Debra Hallow, JARC Executive Director at (561) 558-2550 to learn more about making a charitable gift to JARC.
WHAT'S FOR LUNCH?

JARC's cafe is open for business!

Come enjoy a bagel and coffee for breakfast or a salad or hot meal for lunch!  Not only is the food good but the service is great too!

Thanks to the generosity of Anne Ellman and the staff at the Ellman Family Culinary Training Center, residents and other trainees alike are learning valuable skills.  Snacks are prepared for schools in the community and other facilities. Maybe you've even had the pleasure of experiencing one of JARC's catered affairs, catered right here at the training center.

All of this is a wonderful training experience, one that helps residents prepare for positions in one of the fastest-growing segments of the food industry. And it also means lots of great breakfasts at JARC...and, they're Kosher!
