JARC GROUP HOMES

JARC's group homes are located in the community in residential areas. The homes look like any other home in the neighborhood from the outside. Once you enter a home, you will see that it is much more than any other house. The spacious living rooms are areas where residents can relax after a busy day, watch television or a movie on their DVD player, listen to music, socialize with their peers or entertain guests. The bookcases proudly display family photos, trophies and treasured keepsakes that help to make the house their home. Each resident has a private bedroom that is as individual as they are.

JARC's trained staff provide 24-hour supervision while creating an environment that allows residents a sense of independence and self-sufficiency. All of the residents are responsible, with staff assistance, for maintaining the common areas of the house and each resident is responsible for maintaining their bedroom and laundering their clothes. The residents prepare breakfast and lunch, while dinners are prepared by the staff with the assistance of the residents. All menus are written and reviewed annually by a certified nutritionist.

During the week, the residents are transported to their place of work, which may be competitive employment in the community, a meaningful vocational program, or a volunteer opportunity. On time off from work, the residents enjoy a variety of social activities including shows, movies, dining out, Special Olympics, attend religious services and visiting local attractions. The residents all take part in the planning process. Every summer the residents take a vacation to a different resort destination, including such trips as Club Med and a Caribbean cruise.
